Back to: Trademark Process
The cost of applying for and maintaining a trademark registration depends on several factors, including your application filing basis and the number of classes of goods or services listed. After you submit your application, additional fees may apply based on its completeness and complexity. Once your trademark is registered, ongoing maintenance fees are required to keep your registration active. For more details, see our [trademark fee information](https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/trademark-fee-information) and the [fee schedule](https://www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/fees-and-payment/uspto-fee-schedule).
Your application filing fee
The base application fee is $350 for each class of goods or services included in your application. For instance, if you sell golf shirts, dress shirts, and t-shirts, they typically fall under a single class, resulting in a $350 filing fee for that class.
However, if you also offer custom t-shirt printing services, your goods and services would span two international classes. In this case, your base application filing fee would be $700 ($350 for each class).
Your application filing basis
Your filing basis depends on whether you are currently using your trademark in commerce, which determines the actions and responsibilities required during the registration process.
If you are already using your trademark in interstate commerce in the U.S., you should select the use-in-commerce filing basis. If you have a genuine intent to use your trademark but have not yet done so, you will select the intent-to-use filing basis. The intent-to-use basis involves additional filings and fees at specific stages, such as submitting an allegation of use and the associated fee before your application can be approved.

Additional fees
Depending on the completeness and complexity of your application, you may incur additional fees during the filing and examination process. Read more on our [trademark fee information page](https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/trademark-fee-information).
Maintaining your registration
Once your trademark is registered, you must file specific documents at regular intervals to maintain your registration. The cost to file these documents depends on the number of classes included. For example, every 10 years, regardless of your filing basis, you must submit a declaration of use (or excusable nonuse) and a renewal application. The fees are $325 for the declaration of use and $325 for the renewal, totaling $650 per class of goods or services. If your registration covers two classes, the total would be $1,300 ($650 for each class)
