Back to: Trademark Process
A trademark acts as your brand’s unique identifier. It might be a word, logo, or memorable phrase that distinguishes your products or services from others. Consider it your individual signature in the marketplace. However, a trademark doesn’t grant ownership of a word itself—you only gain protection over how that word or logo is used with your offerings.
For example, if your woodworking business uses a distinctive logo, you can’t prevent someone from adopting a similar logo for an unrelated business like a bakery. Also, selecting a trademark that merely describes your business isn’t ideal. Creative and distinctive trademarks are much easier to protect and more memorable for customers. Aim to be inventive and leave a lasting impression!
